He replaces Ron Godfrey, who has vacated the seat to move on to the features desk as senior features writer.
Mr Seymour, runner-up in the Northern Business Journalist of the Year 1998 Awards, was formerly industry/business writer and sub-editor on the YEP's sister paper, The Northern Echo, at Darlington.
Prior to that he was Editor of Business North-East Magazine, and previously Business/Property Writer on The Journal, based in Newcastle.
