They've done the double!
BSC Filters is the 1998 Evening Press Business Venture of the Year. And the Osbaldwick firm which just can't stop selling its high-tech microwave filters to military and telecommunications industries all over the world is also the year's Best Exporter.
The firm's dual victory was announced at a sparkling but tense awards reception at the Evening Press offices in Walmgate, York, last night.

And in a victory speech to a gathering which included representatives of sponsors Barclays Bank, York and North Yorkshire Training and Enterprise Council, BSC's managing director Alan Corlett had an uplifting message for the leaders of ventures all over the region: "Don't listen to all the media hype of a recession. Go for it! The secret of our company's success lies in its people. We have a marvellous team and we're all thrilled."
The 35-staff firm was today celebrating more than just winning the coveted winner's brass plaque, a cheque for £2,000, a further £1,000 worth of Evening Press advertising plus a £500 cheque for being Exporter of the Year. It was also announcing the expansion of contracts and creating new ones in San Jose in the US, possibly increasing its sales there by up to $2 million.
So what will Mr Corlett and his team do with their winnings? "We will definitely use them to launch our own interactive Internet website to generate even more business.
"And we plan to include our new title, 1998 Evening Press Business Venture of the Year on our stationery. It is a tremendous boost to our confidence."
