On this very day 134 years ago, Lewis Carroll presented a story he had written to the girl who inspired it.
The title was Alice In Wonderland.
No doubt Carroll would have been delighted today to find his story is still popular enough to be retold at the Temple Anderson Hall in York.
And parents should be thrilled too: they can leave their children to be entertained by Alice's Wonderland Pantomime while they go Christmas shopping.
Frazzled parents could be forgiven for taking advantage of such precious freedom.
They might even put their feet up with a cup of coffee before returning to pick up the little darlings.
