The plush surroundings of Bootham Crescent did not prove the inspiration York City Ladies had hoped for when they were beaten 6-1 by Doncaster Rovers.
City, playing this Northern Combination League fixture at the ground to raise funds, started brightly and created chances but failed to get their passing game together.
The visitors gradually took control and punished the lack of fluency by the York girls. City's only consolation was a well struck free kick by Jenny Garnett.
They go into next Sunday's return fixture at Doncaster hoping to return to the form that won them promotion last term which they have failed to reproduce so far this season.
City are looking for new players to help them strengthen their squad and are also seeking sponsorship and donations to help with the increased financial demands of playing in a higher league.
