For nearly seven decades, newspaper seller Les Richardson's distinctive cry of "Press!" has echoed around York. Now, in his final working week, that same sound has bounced around the world via satellite.
Les's appearance on Sky TV is the latest tribute to the man who has braved all weathers to get the news onto the streets. In the past he has received postcards from as far away as California.
In the era of the Internet, Les has turned out to be a pioneer of global communication. It is quite an achievement for someone whose working life began in the era of the steam wireless.
