Now that the builders' work is being finished, the full extent of the vandalism exacted at the former Naburn Hospital site is becoming clear.
It is vandalism first because of the destruction of many dozens of mature trees which had been covered by a Tree Protection Order.
And it is vandalism because, as with all other retail outlets built on the edge of York, it is barely accessible without a car, yet undermines shopping within the city on which the less mobile depend.
The previous government and Selby District Council, particularly the latter, have to bear responsibility for this development.
I hope others will join me in boycotting the development entirely.

...does anybody else care that their view of the sky at night has just been taken away forever?
The culprits are the designers of the new Naburn shopping complex and their all-night controlled lighting.
The pollution department say there is nothing they can do.
I have been able to see the stars over Naburn for many years. What right has anybody to take them away from us?
