YORK'S Olympic swimmer Caroline Foot has been selected to represent Great Britain in the 100m butterfly in the European Short Course Championships next month.

Foot, a member of York City Baths Club, will be hoping to add another medal to the bronze she won at this year's Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur by helping the British team to third place in the 100m medley relay.

The championships, at Sheffield's Ponds Forge, run from December 11 to 13.

Meanwhile, youngsters Jessica Leonard, Lewis Porylo, Julie Watson, David Gibson and Tom Southam, all members of YCBC, have been selected to join district Amateur Swimming Association's Challenge 2000 national youth training programme.

Their selection follows good performances at county and district levels.

There was more good news for YCBC at the recent North Eastern Counties Senior and Junior Short Course Championships, in Middlesbrough.

York swimmers claimed five golds and two silver medals from nine finals, set three club junior records, and recorded 13 personal best times.
