Just over a decade ago Enfield were one of the mighty power-houses outside of the Football League.

The Southbury Road club were the southern equivalent of Altrincham and Scarborough from the mid-1960s through to the mid-1980s.

Had automatic promotion been available back then Enfield would have won through to the professional ranks after winning the then Alliance Premier League crown in 1982-83 and 1985-86.

It was only at the turn of the current decade that their league feats began to wane, a swift descent from the Conference League matched by the ascent of Barnet as north London's premier outfit outside of the professional game.

But even though Enfield have free-fallen to the Ryman Premier League - last term's seventh-place finish was the lowest position occupied by the club in the pyramid of football for 24 years - they remain an outfit boasting a proud and distinguished cup tradition.

Twice they have won both the FA Amateur Cup and the FA Trophy. And with appearing in two other FA Trophy finals they have played at Wembley six times.

Their FA Cup record is also impressive. They have reached the first round 29 times, progressing to the second - City beware - on 17 occasions.

Four times they have reached the third round and surged into the fourth round 18 years ago when they eventually lost to Barnsley in front of a 35,244 crowd at White Hart Lane.

Among the league scalps they have to their FA Cup belt are Wimbledon (twice), Northampton, Hereford, Port Vale, Exeter, Leyton Orient, Cardiff and Torquay, the latter just five seasons ago.
