Tom Jones concert-goers might have been tempted to return to the Barbican Centre today to check that the roof was still on.
The voice of the valleys shook a packed York house last night with his own brand of rock 'n' roll.
His performance proved two things.
Firstly, this 58-year-old grandfather demonstrated that you can still get down even if you are getting on.
Few young popsters could have competed.
Secondly, the concert confirmed that the people of York will respond with unbridled enthusiasm when the big names hit town. Tom played to a full house, as Van Morrison did twice last week.
Well done to the Barbican Centre for bringing two superstars to our city.
May many more follow in their footsteps.
