WIGGINTON rally driver Jenny Davies is in hospital after crashing in the Ulster Rally.
Her works Proton Compact car went off the road and and crashed into a tree. She and co-driver Claire Mole have suffered whiplash injuries.
Both were taken to Downe Patrick hospital, where they were kept overnight.
They were rescued from the crash by the team driving the second works Proton following close behind.The stage was stopped and all competitors were then re-routed.
The second Proton later developed a fuel leak and burst into flames. Driver Matts Andersson was taken to hospital, suffering from smoke inhalation, and he was detained overnight.
York's Simon Redhead and Knaresborough's Les Andrew are still in the running, Redhead lying 19th overall, and Andrew 34th.
The leader is Gwyndath Evans, driving the works SEAT Ibiza. The rally was finishing this afternoon.
