BOLLIN TERRY, an unlucky loser at York before winning at Newcastle last Saturday, can follow up at Chester tomorrow.
Trained by the in-form Tim Easterby, who can do no wrong at present, Bollin Terry met trouble in running on Knavesmire and found daylight all too late. Despite staying on strongly towards the finish, he had to settle for third prize, beaten two short heads by Style Dancer and Saint Express.
It was a different story at Newcastle. Held up for a delayed challenge, as he always is, the four-year-old struck the front entering the final furlong and ran on strongly to beat Captain Logan by one and threequarter lengths.
Set to race off a 5lb higher mark tomorrow, Bollin Terry is napped to oblige again.
The £20,000 Queensferry Stakes, which has Listed status, can fall to Bolshoi, who has enjoyed a truly memorable campaign.
Jack Berry's sprinter lifted the Temple Stakes at Sandown and the King's Stand at Ascot before finding the fast ground against him in the July Cup at Newmarket. Dropped in class here, he can regain the winning thread.
Turnpole and Top Cees, who clashed in the Chester Cup back in May, renew rivalry in the £25,000 Alford Rated Handicap.
Turnpole, who finished second to Silence In Court in the Cup, in which Top Cees finished unplaced after meeting trouble in running, has since run below par in the Ascot Stakes.
But Mary Reveley's charge is worth another chance here, and is fancied to confirm his superiority over Top Cees, most recently successful at Ayr, but now handicapped to the hilt.
At Newcastle, Peaceful, a stable-mate of nap selection Bollin Terry, can initiate an across-the-card double for Great Habton trainer Tim Easterby by winning the Maguire's Traditional Fish and Chips Nursery Handicap.
An easy winner at Carlisle last time, Peaceful, a fair sort, looks the type to go on to better things. In a handicap for the first time here, the youngster should take all the beating.
There was an element of luck in the success of Marathon Maid at Doncaster last time, Richard Fahey's filly getting the run of the race to beat Royal Mark, who met all the trouble going, and looked an unlucky loser.
Royal Mark has since gone on to win at Newcastle and Marathon Maid, raised only 3lb since Doncaster, has good claims of adding to her scoresheet in the £20,000 49's Handicap.
Even allowing for her good fortune last time, the four-year-old produced an improved display and left the impression that she had finally recaptured her useful juvenile form.
Prolific winner Tarashaan can complete her four-timer in the St Modwen Classfied Stakes, while the highly-regarded Rainald looks poised to complete a hat-trick in the Toon Army Conditions Stakes.
At Sandown, northern raider Thwaab should not be overlooked in the Richmond Handicap. Wilf Storey's gelding, a long-priced winner at Doncaster two outings ago, proved that victory was no fluke with a fine effort to finish second to Royal Mark at Newcastle earlier this week. With Neil Kennedy on board again, Thwaab can make his presence felt.
Also worth watching out for at the Esher course are Souffle (2.35), a comfortable winner of a maiden race at Haydock last time, and the potentially high-class Sicnee (4.10), who created a very favourable impression on her successful debut at Redcar.
