Tim Easterby, in high spirits after winning yesterday's £100,000 William Hill Mile Handicap at Goodwood with For Your Eyes Only, can carry on his excellent season at Thirsk tomorrow by scoring with - High Spirits!
The four-year-old goes for the Lords Taverners Handicap over a mile and has a fine chance of repeating his course and distance success in the Thirsk Hunt Cup earlier this season.
On his latest start at York, High Spirits finished a good second to Young Precedent beaten only one and a quarter lengths, despite not having the race run to suit him because of a moderate early gallop.
With Kevin Darley in the saddle tomorrow, High Spirits is napped to return to the winning trail - and keep the in-form Tim Easterby in high spirits.
Kingdom Queen figures on a handy mark in the Barclays Bank Handicap.
Trained by Julie Camacho, whose horses seem to be coming back to form after a lean spell, Kingdom Queen gained a neck success at Beverley last time over Tallulah Belle, who franked that form when going one better at Goodwood yesterday.
Jack Berry's apprentice Paul Bradley has the mount.
Another Nightmare, winner of the Rocom Group Selling Handicap for lady riders 12 months ago, has good prospects of achieving a repeat victory. But this six furlongs dash is not the sort of race punters should get too heavily involved with.
The same might be said of Goodwood's six furlongs dash, the Vodafone Stewards' Cup, a much more famous and prestigious affair, which boasts prize money of £80,000.
Richard Fahey, brother-in-law of Tim Easterby, has two good chances here with Superior Premium and Eastern Purple, but the vote goes to another northern raider, Gaelic Storm, trained by Mark Johnston whose stable-star Double Trigger yesterday captured the Goodwood Cup for a magnificent third time.
Gaelic Storm has won his last two races at Pontefract and Newcastle and is a horse very much on the upgrade. With Darryll Holland in the saddle, he can play a leading role in this 30-runner cavalry charge.
The £75,000 Vodafone Nassau Stakes offers Midnight Line a good opportunity to get back on top.
A Newmarket winner on her seasonal reappearance, Henry Cecil's filly finished second to Bahr in the Musidora Stakes at York, and third to Shatoush in the Epsom Oaks. Freshened up since that Classic bid, Midnight Line can return to winning form here in the hands of Kieren Fallon.
Whatever the fate of Gaelic Storm in the Stewards' Cup Mark Johnston should have a major say in the outcome of the Trundle Classified Stakes with White Heart, which brings down the curtain on Goodwood's five-day festival.
