Yorkshire Cricket by David Warner
Yorkshire are still waiting to hear the result of a hospital scan which Chris Silverwood had yesterday to determine whether the fast bowler has suffered a stress shin fracture, writes David Warner.
But even if there is no break, Silverwood will not be fit for Yorkshire's championship match against Worcestershire at New Road which begins on Thursday.
The specialist who did the scan is expected to pass on his diagnosis to Yorkshire and England physiotherapist Wayne Morton at some stage today.
The injury could not have come at a more inappropriate time for Silverwood who was yesterday named in a squad of 37 from which England will choose their side for the one-day triangular tournament with South Africa and Sri Lanka later this month.
Also in the party - from which most of next year's World Cup squad will be chosen - are Darren Gough and former Yorkshire batsman and left-arm spinner bowler Paul Grayson, now an integral part of the Essex side.
Grayson played York and District Senior League cricket for Bedale in his younger days.
If Silverwood has a stress fracture, he will need several weeks of rest in order to stand a chance of being fit for selection for this winter's tour of Australia.
Gavin Hamilton will bite the bullet and play for Yorkshire at Worcester, despite breaking his little toe while batting at Lord's, but Ryan Sidebottom yesterday had an injection on his groin strain and will be out for a further ten days.
The one consolation for injury-hit Yorkshire is that Gough returns to the side following England's great win over South Africa at Trent Bridge yesterday.
Yorkshire's England all-rounder Craig White is still no nearer a recovery from his mystery back injury and he intends to have a third scan shortly. White bowled three overs for Scarborough at the weekend but was in considerable pain.
