Racing by Tom O'Ryan
Tomorrow sees the start of Glorious Goodwood and Lochangel can fittingly lift the King George Grosvenor Casinos Stakes, a race in which her brilliant half-sister Lochsong gained back-to-back victories in 1993-94.
Lochangel, like Lochsong, is trained by Ian Balding, who has a wonderful Goodwood record and also won this five furlongs dash with Silver Fling in 1988.
Lochangel, a model of consistency this season, has never finished out of the first two in four races, her latest fine effort coming in the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot, where she just failed to hold off the flying finish of Bolshoi.
Frankie Dettori, hero of Saturday's King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes on Swain, has the mount on Lochangel, who has the weights in her favour to clinch this showcase event.
Dettori can also win the Grosvenor Casinos Cup Handicap on Perfect Paradigm, trained by John Gosden.
Wearing a visor for the first time, Perfect Paradigm bounced back to winning form at Haydock three weeks ago when capturing the valuable Old Newton Cup by a convincing two and a half lengths from Bay Of Islands.
He steps up three furlongs in distance tomorrow, but should not be dismissed lightly.
Hitman can lift the opening Goodwood honours for Henry Cecil and Kieren Fallon in the Peugeot Gordon Stakes.
This lightly-raced three-year-old struck winning form at Newmarket earlier in the month when beating Kumatour by two lengths in a red-hot 16-runner handicap over a mile and a quarter.
Hitman steps up in class and distance here and this fast-improving colt is fancied to complete a notable double.
Recent Kempton winner Secret Spring also has good prospects of a double in the Chesterfield Cup, while the Lynda Ramsden-trained Naviasky is worth noting back to a mile in the Lord George Bentinck Handicap.
At Beverley, Cool Katie can provide Kevin Ryan with his second winner in the Family Day Maiden Auction Fillies' Stakes over five furlongs.
Ryan, formerly head-lad to Richard Fahey, set up at Hambleton Lodge last month and got off the mark - after several near-misses - with Komlucky at Catterick last week.
Cool Katie finished a good second over this course and distance on her debut a fortnight ago and, with Robert Winston in the saddle, is fancied to go one better.
The Touch Above Handicap may provide Thatched with the opportunity to gain the 11th success of his career in the hands of Paul Fessey.
Ronnie Barr's evergreen gelding, a previous course and distance winner, has been in good form this summer and finished a creditable second to Naskhi here last week over a mile and a quarter. He will prefer this shorter trip.
Mousehole, who has struck form with a vengeance recently, can complete a quick double in the 'Go Racing in Yorkshire' Classified Stakes.
Trained at Newmarket by Rae Guest, Mousehole scored at Carlisle recently and looks destined to follow up here.
