Business Link North Yorkshire, the one-stop shop for corporate help, has appointed five new advisers to cope with the growing demand for its services.

They are Martin Bradley, Ron Cosens, Mike Pulman, Ian Rhodes and Barry Upson.

Michele Cusack, senior personal business adviser said: "Business Link North Yorkshire is handling calls for help and advice at the rate of 450 a month and many of these callers require the specialist assistance that our team can give.

"Our newly-recruited advisers come from a wide range of professions and backgrounds covering many different industry sectors and business functions.

"The one thing that they all have in common is that they have owned or held senior positions in one or more small or medium sized organisations and the experience and guidance they are able to offer our client companies is highly relevant."

Since its formation in April, 1996, Business Link North Yorkshire has handled more than 8,000 calls for help and advice from businesses throughout York and North Yorkshire.

BUSINESS SERVICE STARTS HOTLINE

A START-your-own-business hotline has just been launched by Business Link North Yorkshire.

A dedicated freephone number, 0800 783 9629, will offer a single point of contact for vital information and advice to get a prospective entrepreneur going.

The service is provided by North Yorkshire Training and Enterprise Council - one of the sponsors of the Evening Press Business Venture of the Year competition.

The North Yorkshire TEC is acting with North Yorkshire County Council and the City of York Council as well as district councils throughout North Yorkshire to make the hotline initiative work.

Business Link North Yorkshire will co-operate with local business support agencies to provide basic information, seminars and workshops as well as one-to-one advice.

Support will include advice on sources of finance, finding suitable premises, information on target markets, tax and regulatory requirements, marketing, business planning and understanding book-keeping.

Bill Johnstone, head of business services at North Yorkshire TEC, said: "This service will ensure that local entrepreneurs have the best possible start.

"We have a good track record when it comes to start-up and growth of small business and with the combined efforts of the organisations involved, this can only go from strength to strength."
