David Warner on Yorkshire Cricket
James Middlebrook could make a dream championship debut for Yorkshire against Middlesex at cricket's headquarters tomorrow.
The 21-year-old off-spinner and right hand batsman from Leeds is included in a party of 12 for the Lord's match which Yorkshire must win if they are to move up from sixth place in the table.
And skipper David Byas said that Middlebrook would play in the game if it was found that Middlesex had prepared a pitch to suit the spinners rather than the pacemen.
Yorkshire will be without Darren Gough who will be on Test duty at Trent Bridge along with Middlesex paceman Angus Fraser and it is because of his absence from Lord's that the home side may be looking to their left-arm spinner Phil Tufnell to bowl Yorkshire out.
If Middlebrook does play, it is likely to be at the expense of left-arm swing bowler Ryan Sidebottom who replaces Gough in the party.
Middlebrook has had an excellent all-round season both with Yorkshire Seconds and Bradford League side Pudsey Congs and he made his first class debut for Yorkshire in the three-day game against Cambridge University which ended in a draw at Headingley last month.
The University batted only once in a rain restricted game and Middlebrook came out of it with the respectable figures of two for 84 off 27.5 overs.
He also played for Yorkshire against Tim Rice's XI at the Scarborough Festival last week, scoring 20 runs and taking one for 43.
