A MOTORIST who drove while at almost six times the legal breath-alcohol limit had enough drink in his system to kill most people.
David John Mackenzie had the highest level for a drink-driver that anyone serving with the York police has ever come across.
Mackenzie, 41, of School Lane, Fulford, York, was stopped by police in York last week and when he was taken for a breath test he registered 208 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35mgs.
Nearly 15 hours later the reading was still almost double the legal limit.
Yesterday when he appeared before York magistrates, Mackenzie admitted drink-driving. He was granted bail pending further reports and is due to be sentenced on August 7. The court imposed a temporary driving ban.
One police officer at York said Mackenzie should, according to the figures, be dead.
"At 160mg you should be in a coma," the officer said - "And at 200 you should really be dead.
"We have never seen anything like this here and it has got to be one of the highest readings ever given for a breath test."
