David Warner on Yorkshire Cricket
Rain at Scarborough today delayed Yorkshire piling on the agony on the third day of their championship match against Nottinghamshire after Darren Lehmann's stirring century yesterday, writes David Warner.
Lehmann scored his first championship century in a home match for Yorkshire, forging out a chanceless 131 which enabled Yorkshire to reach 358 for seven by the close, a lead of 124.
Since he joined Yorkshire at the start of last summer Lehmann has scored five championship centuries on away grounds. This was his first home appearance of the season - he was not in the country for the first two matches and he missed the next two through injury.
Nottinghamshire's pace bowling was pretty ordinary for much of the time, although Kevin Evans worked his socks off to take four wickets, but Lehmann's duel with Zimbabwean spinner Paul Strang was fascinating to watch, with neither player being able to claim outright supremacy.
This was still one of Lehmann's most destructive innings for some time, however, and when he was finally caught behind off a beauty from Paul Franks he had faced 196 balls and struck 15 fours and one five, many of his best shots being through mid-wicket and the covers.
Lehmann combined with David Byas in a stirring partnership of 115 but when the captain had reached 54 with nine boundaries off 96 balls he edged Evans to Graeme Archer at second slip. Matthew Wood contributed 26 of a 99 stand with Lehmann.
