Crack Ryedale apprentice Robert Winston, who took the concluding honours at Doncaster last night on Marathon Maid, can enjoy another lucrative shift of 'night duty' at Pontefract's charity meeting tomorrow.

Winston, with 24 winners this season, can lift the Countrywide Freight Handicap aboard Thatched, who has been in good form recently, and who will relish the expected fast ground.

A Redcar winner this season, when he took his career tally to 10 wins, Ronnie Barr's gelding ran well in defeat at Beverley last time, finishing a close fifth to Colway Ritz after meeting trouble in running.

A horse who likes to be produced as late as possible. Thatched has excellent claims in this one mile event - especially with the in-form Winston taking the mount.

Siberian Mystic, runner-up on her last two starts, looks a tempting proposition in the Yorkshire-Tyne Tees Television Fillies' Handicap over a mile and a half.

Pat Murphy's charge is a previous course and distance winner here and will have the assistance tomorrow of Fergal Lynch.

The promising Scoop (6.45) makes plenty of appeal in the opener, while Cantina (9.10) is fancied to send punters home happy by landing the final race.

Trained by Alan Bailey, Cantina romped home to an easy success at Chester just a week ago. Clearly in tip-top form, this four-year-old will surely take all the beating as she bids for a quick double.

Carlisle's afternoon action promises to reward Mousehole with a deserved victory in the Virgin Trains Classified Stakes.

Rae Guest's filly was beaten by a neck by Ellens Lad at Newmarket last week and that form has since been franked by Afaan (third) and Sue Me (fourth), who both scored yesterday.

Canadian Fantasy can provide Grantham trainer Val Ward with her first success on the Flat in the Frank Bird Poultry Handicap.

Mrs Ward, better known for her exploits over jumps, received a Flat licence only a month ago and saddled Canadian Fantasy to finish a creditable fourth to Black Weasel at Pontefract recently. That race was over 10 furlongs, and the four-year-old will appreciate this step up in distance.

At Newbury tomorrow, Fairy Prince is napped to strike it rich in the £10,000 Showcase event, the 49's Handicap, over six furlongs.

Annabel King's able sprinter ran a fine race from a poor draw at Pontefract recently to finish fifth to Ray Of Sunshine, beaten little more than two lengths. He now looks to be coming to his peak and should certainly not be underestimated here with Kieren Fallon taking the mount.

Also worth noting at Newbury are recent Beverley winner Nanton Point (4.00) and the hat-trick seeking Amber Fort (5.00).
