POLICE conducted door-to-door inquiries after a man was attacked with a hammer by two raiders in a village post office.
The two masked men, carrying hammers, attempted to rob the post office at Spofforth, near Knaresborough, yesterday afternoon at about 2.40pm.
They did not steal anything, but hit a member of staff in the face. The man sustained a cut to his nose, but did not require medical treatment.
The robbers made their getaway in a silver-coloured Vauxhall Nova. The car was later found abandoned about half a mile away and from where witnesses report seeing two men and a woman driving off in a C-registered Nissan or Toyota vehicle. Police say witnesses should contact Harrogate Police on (01423) 505541.
