The Lord Mayor of York brought out his best silver to honour the visit of a party of Americans from the city's namesake in South Carolina.
Mr William Senn and four relatives travelled thousands of miles to visit York, and after contacting Coun Derek Smallwood were treated to lunch and shown the city's civic treasures in the historic walls of the Guildhall.
Mr Senn said: "York in South Carolina was established in the 1700s as a farming community and is known as the White Rose city of Carolina.
"We heard so much about York in England when we were growing up and have always wanted to come here."
He was accompanied by his three sisters Carolyn, Margaret and Luellen, and her husband, Richard.
