This jolly jester dropped into York today to launch the city's world-renowned Early Music Festival.
The entertainment begins today with the internationally-acclaimed Academy of Ancient Music and will finish ten days and 43 events later on Sunday, July 12, with a performance of the cycle of York Mystery Plays.
Guest artists taking part in the festival, which is celebrating its 21st birthday this year, include harpsichordist Ton Koopman at St Michael-le-Belfrey, the Gabrieli Consort and players who will be recreating High Mass, from St Mark's, Venice, at York Minster.
Street entertainers and local children dressed in home-made medieval costume will also be taking part in events around the city over the next few days. Festival administrative director Delma Tomlin said: "We put on concerts that you will not be able to find anywhere else in the country and people come from all over the world to join in or as visitors after hearing the evening concerts broadcast on the radio.
