A specialist electronic distributor firm which is moving into new £2 million headquarters in Osbaldwick at the end of August plans to employ around 50 people by the early years of the new millennium.

Cyclops Electronics Ltd, which acts as a broker for hard-to-obtain electronic components, plans to take on six telesales staff as soon as its existing staff of 20 move out of their cramped 3,000 sq ft offices in Fishergate and into their sleek new 20,000 sq ft two storey offices between Smith Brothers bathroom specialists and Bentley Park.

Another 24 will be taken on over the next six months and office manager Mike Sinclair anticipates a further 20 employed "early in the new millennium."

Formed by its managing director Daniel Yodaiken in Scotland eight years ago, the firm moved from Fife to York in 1994 and rapidly expanded, opening new offices in New Jersey in the US and, more recently, in Munich.

The design-and-build contract on the Osbaldwick site went to Walter G Birch of Harrogate and there is room there to build more offices.
