Bowlers Boy, who got off the mark for the season at Pontefract on Monday evening, can complete a rapid double at Redcar tomorrow by lifting the feature race, which will be covered on Channel 4 television.
The £12,000 Vaux Gold Tankard, Bowlers Boy's valuable target, is the centrepiece of the Redcar programme in which all seven races will take place on the straight course at distances up to a mile because of the waterlogged state of the round course.
Not that Bowlers Boy will be inconvenienced. He is a proven mud-lover as he showed at Pontefract when coming late and fast to beat Jeffrey Anotherred by a comfortable length.
John Quinn's sprinter now has a 6lb penalty but that may not be enough to prevent him obliging again and he is awarded the Nap vote.
John Dunlop has a good record with his Sussex raiders at Redcar, and the Arundel trainer is unlikely to emerge empty-handed tomorrow.
Dunlop saddles the promising Eljjanah in the Stanley Racing Handicap, and Somayda in the Tees Components Maiden Stakes. Both three-year-olds are worthy of support, as are the Jack Berry-trained Cartmel Park (2.40) and Mamma's Boy (4.45).
After four days of Royal Ascot, tomorrow, as is tradition, the meeting reverets to being called Ascot because there is no royal presence. In the Palan Handicap Torrent, trained by David Barron at Maunby near Thirsk, has an excellent chance of winning.
A dual-winner this season, Torrent ran a blinder at York last Saturday when, despite hanging quite badly to his left in the closing stages, he finished sixth to Friar Tuck in the William Hill Trophy.
That six furlongs race may have stretched Torrent's stamina. Tomorrow's return to the minimum trip should suit him better.
Sir Michael Stoute, with four winners at Royal Ascot, can round off a memorable week by landing the London Clubs Fern Hill Rated Handicap with the potentially high-class Confidante, winner of both his starts this season.
Dark Moondancer, highly rated by Peter Chapple-Hyam, can open his seasonal account in the Milcars Conditions Stakes in the hands of John Reid.
Tim Etherington's Vagabond Chanteuse can land in the Ladbroke Handicap. This return to handicap company will suit Vagabond Chanteuse, who was an excellent third to smart Redbridge at Leicester last weekend.
Up at Ayr - the third televised meeting tomorrow - Top Cees has a bright chance of capturing the featured Tennent Trophy. Lynda Ramsden's dual Chester Cup winner, ran a fair race to chase home Arctic Owl on Knavesmire last week.
