School Sport

More than a hundred schoolchildren took part in the Inter-Schools Orienteering event held at Duncombe Park.

Hambleton CE Primary School, Selby, were the overall winners as well as winners of the 11s and under section, while Acklam Grange 'A' won the 13s and under competition.

The competitors had to visit 30 control points in 45 minutes. They crossed meadows, woodland or muddy valley bottoms and they lost a point for each minute they were late. The youngsters ran in pairs and 11 schools fielded 18 teams of six.

Other schools taking part were Woodleigh, Malton; Canon Lee, The Mount, Bootham, Tang Hall, Dringhouses Primary, Our Lady's RC Primary, and Foston Primary all from York'; and Kirkbymoorside Primary.

The event was organised with assistance from York-based club Eborienteers.

Results were:

13s and under: 1 Acklam Grange 'A' 48pts (Angela Routledge, Kirsty Bage, Wayne Flanagan, Adam Roberts, Ross McNeill, Mark Peacock); 2 Bootham 47pts; 3 Acklam Grange 'B'.

11s and under: 1 Hambleton CE Primary 64pts (Kevin Davey, Craig Thirwell, David Drewett, Kathryn Davey, Chelsey Pattison, Alex Kent); 2 Dringhouses Primary 29pts; 3 Our Lady's RC Primary 27pts.

Sherburn (77-7) beat Archbishop's (24 all out) by 53 runs.

Fulford beat Huntington by eight wickets.

U12 Cup, Round Two

Fulford (59-2) beat Oaklands (58-8) by eight wickets.

The next game for the U15 York/Selby cricket team is an away fixture against Doncaster in the Yorkshire Cup competition. It will be played tomorrow, starting at 2pm at the Selby Londesborough Cricket Club and will consist of 40 overs each side.

All the York/Selby players are to be at the ground by 1.30pm and tea will be provided.

Athletics

Grateful thanks are extended to all staff and competitors for getting through the majority of the programme on semi-finals day in what became increasingly difficult conditions.

Several points came out of the semi-finals.

1. There will need to be, before the finals, High Jump elimination competitions in the Year 8 Boys and ALL the girls' events.

2. ALL Javelin throwers who were to compete in the semi-finals will go through to the finals and the Year 9 and 10 Boy High Jumpers.

3. ALL Hurdlers will go through to the finals and have heats before the start of the finals at 1.10pm.
