Who says football and beer go hand in hand? Not the Health Education Authority, which has devised a special range of alcohol-free cocktails to ensure any celebrations stay a headache-free zone.

Andy Searle, the HEA's alcohol campaign manager, said: "Hopefully England will have something more to celebrate but whatever the result it's worth going steady on the alcohol to keep in shape for the whole tournament.''

Recipes include:

The England Energiser

Pour sparkling red grape juice into a glass, add vanilla ice cream floater and garnish with blueberries, blackberries or cherries. Alternatively, use cranberry juice and add natural yoghurt instead of ice cream and liquidise or stir thoroughly.

The World Cup Milkshake

Take a punnet of fresh strawberries and a pint of cold milk. Liquidise them together, holding back a few strawberries for garnish. Stir in a swirl of fresh cream and garnish with a strawberry and blueberry.

Shearer Scorcher

Mix together half a pint of milk with a scoop of frozen yoghurt. Dribble in some pureed raspberries, add a touch of lime juice and garnish to taste.

Beckham Bite

Pour a generous amount of tomato juice over a glass of crushed ice. Add Worcester sauce, tabasco sauce and black pepper for the Spice appeal.

Scholes Sizzler

Blend together carrot and apple juice and decorate with a slice of orange. A real thirst quencher perfect for post-match rehydration.

Mowbray's ice-cream parlour in Stonegate, York, has blended together its very own combination to form the Red, White and Blue World Cup Floater.

The concoction includes a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and one of blackberry and apple yoghurt, joined with a can of coke and topped with blue moon ice cream.
