IF cricket fanatic Liz Evenden's batting skills match her knack for winning competitions, she should hit them for six when she squares up to one of Yorkshire's top bowlers tomorrow.

Liz won a day out at Headingley in a competition on York's Minster FM radio station by describing something she had always wanted to do - to face a fast bowler.

But Liz, 28, from York, could soon top even that if her current string of good luck continues and she wins a trip to the World Cup finals in France.

"Over the last two weeks I've entered five competitions and won four of them," she said.

So far she has won:* Two theatre tickets to see Carousel in York;* First-class train travel on the Edinburgh to London line (both from Minster FM);* An England football shirt signed by all the squad (in a TV Chart Show competition).

"The other one I've entered is for tickets to the World Cup final on the Big Breakfast - if I won that one, that would be good, but the odds are pretty slim," she said.

Meanwhile, Liz, a member of York University women's cricket team, is preparing for tomorrow's task. Although Darren Gough will not now be able to grant her wish, due to his broken finger, she said she would still be facing a ball travelling at about 100 mph.

After her challenge, and VIP lunch, she and her two brothers, John and Bob will watch the Yorkshire v Hampshire match and the club has even arranged for her friend's 10-year-old son Daniel Dixey, from Selby, to be the match mascot.
