It's not the World Cup but the Premier League that will be "coming home" to York tonight.
Ooh Ah Showab Khan, at York's Priory Street Centre tonight, is a provocative play tackling the issue of racism in football.
Written by Clifford Oliver, the play follows the struggles of one of Britain's first professional Asian footballers and his struggle to break through the barriers and play in the Premier League.
But life is made more difficult for Showab because one journalist is determined to turn him into a role model for Asian youth.
Showab just wants to play football but finally the pressure culminates in an incident on the pitch and the Football Association, the press and the extreme right wing are all involved.
Produced by the team which created Kicking Out, as part of the Euro '96 Cultural Events Programme, Ooh Ah Showab Khan looks at racism both on the pitch and in the boardroom and is described as "humorous, theatrically imaginative and very, very honest" by the Times Educational Supplement.
Admission to the play is free but by ticket only and reservations can be made by phoning York Central Library on 613161, ext 1831/2.
