School Sport compiled by Peter Wilmott
The World Cup kick-off in France this afternoon was not the focus of attention for dozens of North Yorkshire sports youngsters.
Their attention was on the annual Inter-Schools Orienteering Competition at Duncombe Park, Helmsley.
While Brazil and Scotland were taking to the pitch in Paris, twenty teams from York, Selby, Malton, Kirkbymoorside and Middlesbrough schools were setting off on their own trail. The competition, organised with the assistance of York-based club Eborienteers, was for two age groups.
Five schools had teams in the 13 and under section, eight schools in the 11 and under event.
It was the third time Duncombe Park had hosted the competition.
