York-born rugby union star Nick Beal is on a collision course with All Black giant Jona Lomu.

The former Archbishop Holgate School student is one of seven senior internationals aiming to get England's southern hemisphere tour back on track against New Zealand 'A' in Hamilton on Saturday.

British Lion Matt Dawson, who missed last Saturday's 76-0 thrashing by Australia, returns to skipper theEngland side.

Other capped players on duty with Dawson and Beal are wing Dominic Chapman, prop Will Green, hooker Phil Greening, flanker Ben Clarke and number eight Steve Ojomoh.

Beal is likely to play in the centre but his path is sure to cross the Kiwi giant during the game. The task of marking Lomu falls to Sale right wing Matt Moore and he will be joined in the starting line-up by four of his club colleagues.

Clarke will lead a pack that features four Gloucester forwards, including an all Cherry and Whites second-row combination of Rob Fidler and Dave Sims.

With Test places up for grabs against the All Blacks in Dunedin on Saturday week, coach Clive Woodward is confident that England can begin to restore battered pride.

The New Zealand 'A' side includes several All Blacks, Lomu and fellow wing Glen Osborne the pick, and local bookmakers are once again giving England very little chance.

His only real surprise selection is that of Sale wing Tom Beim at full-back, but Woodward, a former Easingwold School student, said: "Tom has played there before and there is not a lot of difference between wing and full-back. I don't think he's out of position."

Woodward deliberately avoided picking anyone who had started the Wallabies Test, and those players who have still to make an appearance on this tour can expect their chance against the New Zealand Academy in Invercargill next Tuesday.

England team to play New Zealand A: T Beim (Sale); M Moore (Sale), N Beal (Northampton), J Baxendell (Sale), D Chapman (Richmond); J Lewsey (Bristol), M Dawson (Northampton, capt); W Green (Wasps), P Greening (Gloucester), D Bell (Sale), R Fidler (Gloucester), D Sims (Gloucester), B Clarke (Richmond), P Sanderson (Sale), S Ojomoh (Gloucester). Replacements: S Potter (Leicester), A King (Wasps), P Richards (London Irish), D Crompton (Richmond), G Chuter (Saracens), D Grewcock (Saracens), L Moody (Leicester).

Two New Zealand-born players will make their Scotland debuts in the Test against Australia in Sydney on Saturday.

Full-back Glenn Metcalfe and flanker Gordon Simpson earn their first caps after qualifying through Scottish grandparents.

There is just the one change from the team that performed well against New South Wales last Saturday, Derrick Lee coming in on the right wing in place of Craig Joiner.
