Racing by Tom O'Ryan
Tomorrow's Redcar race meeting was surprisingly called off today.
It was originally decided after an inspection of the course at 8am that although the round course was considered unfit for racing tomorrow, plans would be made to try to save the meeting by staging the races due to rbe run on the straight course.
Two races were abandoned, with arrangements made to divide two others in order to fill the card.
After the 8am inspection it was announced that there would be a further inspection of the course late this afternnon.
But at 10.30am the whole meeting was called off, after final declarations of horses for tomorrow had already been made.
Clerk of the course John Gundill said: "We've been in consultation with the British Horseracing Board and in the light of the poor weather forecast we have abandoned the meeting.
"A decision has been taken now to give owners and trainers time to make other arrangements.
"The track has taken 94mm of rain since May 26."
At Salisbury, which will now stage the only other meeting scheduled for tommorrow, Distinctive Dream is napped to lift the featured £10,000 49's Blandford Handicap over six furlongs.
Lady Herries' charge looks to be just coming to hand after two outings and finished an excellent, if unlucky second on his latest outing at Kempton a fortnight ago.
Distinctive Dream met all sorts of problems trying to gain a clear run that day and, after finding daylight too late, stayed on strongly to take the runner-up honours just a head behind Supreme Angel.
Distinctive Dream can be regarded as a winner without a penalty and deserves plenty of respect here. Ray Cochrane again has the mount.
Kariyh, in the frame on both her outings this season, can make it third-time-lucky in the Booker Chef's Larder Maiden Fillies' Stakes.
John Dunlop's three-year-old started favourite on her latest outing at Goodwood, but was no match for the well-regarded Beraysim inside the final two furlongs and was beaten four lengths into second.
Stepping up to a mile tomorrow, Kariyh can gain compensation under Richard Hills.
Lady Muck, who started at 33-1 on her debut at Kempton last month, belied those odds by finishing a highly creditable second to the favourite Dark Albatross, beaten two lengths.
Lady Muck will not be sent off at anything like 33-1 in tomorrow's Eddie Reavey Maiden Auction Fillies' Stakes division two. On the evidence of her Kempton effort, she has tremendous prospects.
