The engine now departing from York's National Railway Museum is the Mallard special non-stop service to Doncaster.
Railway enthusiasts have waited eight years to see the world-famous engine back on the main line - this was due to technical reasons.
However, staff at the museum have made the engine railworthy and inspectors have given the green light for the world's fastest steam locomotive.
The Museum wishes to announce that it is 60 years since its famous steam engine broke the world rail record by running at 126 mph between Grantham and Peterborough.
On arriving at Doncaster International Railport, the Mallard will star with fellow A4 Pacific Sir Nigel Gresley and A2 Blue Peter.
But the Mallard will not be running under its own steam - it has not done so since 1988 - and instead is to be towed. The locomotive last left the Museum in 1990.
