One-time flier Paul White is waiting in the wings to make a comeback with York Rugby League Club.

The man who figured for almost four seasons with the Wasps in the early 1990s has been given a lifeline by his old club to get back on track in the game.

York coach Dean Robinson said that White had been invited to the club to get back to maximum fitness after a lengthy spell out on the sidelines.

If White gets fully fit then he could answer the club's quest for wing cover. The former Wasps winger is currently a free agent after being released by Hunslet Sharks.

Said Robinson: "Paul has been out of action for eight months.

"At the moment he is back with us in training to work on his conditioning to bring him up to speed.

"Once that has been achieved then we will look to offer him a trial period with the club."

Robinson added that the Wasps needed cover on the flanks with the loss of Geoff Woodward back to his native Australia, Scott Limb off to Doncaster and the likelihood of Jamie Benn figuring more in Castleford's plans.

"White is a quality player. As soon as he gets fit and is raring to go then we will bring him into the squad."

Between 1989 and 1993 when he left to link up with Hunslet White made more than 50 appearances for the Wasps, his try count being well into double figures.
