Haarmann & Reimer, the Selby-based citric acid producer, has appointed Brenntag, the largest distributor in Europe, as its new sales agent for Germany.
As Britain's largest citric acid producer, Haarmann & Reimer exports around 80 per cent of its output and a quarter of all exports are sold in Germany, primarily for its soft drinks, food and pharmaceutical sectors.
Already 14 Brenntag sales people from distribution centres throughout Germany have visited the plant in Denison Road for a three-day intensive training programme conducted in German by Haarmann & Reimer staff and the company's German sales manager, Peter Hofmann.
John Dale, Selby business group director, said: "Germany is an extremely important and growing market for Haarmann & Reimer.
Brenntag's expertise will allow us to capitalise on further business opportunities. The German language training that our own employees had received through special courses organised by Selby College proved invaluable."
