Frankie Dettori, who has a great chance of pulling off an outstanding Derby-Oaks double this weekend on Cape Verdi and Bahr, travels north to Pontefract tomorrow with excellent prospects of getting in the winning groove.
Dettori teams-up with High and Mighty in the Yorkshire-Tyne Tees Television Handicap, and this progressive three-year-old promises to take all the beating.
Trained by John Gosden, High And Mighty got off the mark by a clever half-length from Dutch Lad at Chester and was sent off at odds-on to follow-up at Ripon a fortnight ago, only to suffer a defeat.
Partnered that day by Royston Ffrench, High And Mighty met trouble in running more than two furlongs out and, although recovering to have every chance in the final 200 yards, he was beaten two and a half lengths by Dancing Rio.
Compensation awaits High And Mighty here.
Dettori and Gosden can also clinch the featured 49's Kalamazoo Security Print Handicap with Polska Modelle.
This lightly-raced performer gave notice of better things to come when chasing home The Editor in a maiden race at Thirsk last month. Now in his first handicap, and stepping up to a more suitable distance, he can open his winning account.
Walter Swinburn is riding at the very top of his form, a fact illustrated by his four winners at two different meetings on Saturday.
Swinburn, who will bid to win his fourth Derby this weekend aboard Michael Stoute's York winner Greek Dance, joins forces with the same stable's Dark Shell in the Groundstaff Maiden Stakes, and promises to enjoy a good ride.
Although he has yet to see a racecourse, Dark Shell has been impressing work-watchers on the Newmarket gallops. His chances of making a winning debut should not be underestimated.
Swinburn also has good prospects on Leave It To Me (a good second at Newmarket on her debut) in the Thorne Maiden Fillies' Stakes, but the vote here goes to Tim Easterby's Bollin Rita, who has finished runner-up in both her starts to date.
Bollin Rita can make it third-time-lucky here in the hands of Lindsay Charnock.
The two miles and one furlong Tony Bethell Memorial Handicap promises to be an intriguing little race. Nigel's Lad, successful 12 months ago, has a good chance of doing the double, but Embryonic, who finished fifth to him at Ripon last week, has a handy pull at the weights this time and may be capable of turning the tables.
At Brighton, Calamander should not be overlooked in the Victor Chandler 'Bet Today by Debit Card' Apprentices' Handicap.
Trained by the in-form Willie Muir, Calamander finished a creditable second to Lucky Archer at Nottingham recently, and the winner has since franked that form with a cosy success at Yarmouth.
