It's green for go for York City - and it's a racing certainty of being a winner. That was the verdict of striker Neil Tolson on the club's new third team kit cast in Hibernian-type colours, which he and team-mate Graeme Murty paraded at the official launch at Bootham Crescent today.
Enthused Tolson: "You can get some hideous shades of green. But this is a great colour. It's like a racing green and I think it will be a favourite with the fans."I like the overall look of the strip. It's modern and yet it's simple like the old-fashioned kits, which I like."
The belting green look scored a hit with City fan Paul Worthington, who was the first to buy it when the club shop doors opened today.
He said: "I like it very much. It's smart and I believe it will be a big seller."The new look is the first time in City's history they have sported green, which was developed by the club's commercial assistant James Richardson after discovering that manager Alan Little favoured the colour.
"I took up on that because we needed a striking colour that was different to what we have had before. This is definitely that. It is very distinguished looking. We are sure it will be a hit with the fans." said Richardson.
A special presentation of a complete strip was made to eight-year-old Junior Red John Newsom by Admiral, the kit's manufacturers.
As a boost for fans wishing to sport the new look during the summer the cost of the strip will remain at 1997-98 prices.
And readers of the Evening Press could also be sporting the new look this summer. Check tomorrow's edition of the Evening Press to discover how you can be the proud owner of City's new green backs - and fronts.
Meanwhile, players current and old, plus supporters, are to gather at York Racecourse tonight for a testimonial dinner that kicks off the benefit year for star defender Andy McMillan.
More than 400 guests will attend the function at which the chief speaker and guest will be former England World Cup winning hero Alan Ball, now manager of Portsmouth.
Among the diners will be members of the 1973-74 City squad, who won promotion to the 'old' Division Two - City's highest ever League status.
Don't miss the chance to win one of the new City strips in tomorrow's Evening Press.
