It's every postman's nightmare - the North Yorkshire street with FOUR names.
Now in an effort to stamp out mailroom mayhem every time a letter arrives addressed to one particular Easingwold road, residents are being polled on what the street should be called. The problem lies in Easingwold's Station Road...also known as Raskelf Road, which contains Station Cottages - sometimes known as Railway Cottages.
Responsible for more postmen's palpitations than tearaway terriers, the street's unusual problem is, at long last, to be addressed by council planners.
Postal managers approached Hambleton District Council with a request to clarify the situation.
Steve Quartermain, Hambleton's director of planning and environmental services for the council said: "We went through our own records which confirmed that the road was called Station Road.
"People found that they had been calling their house one thing and would be calling it another. The matter had raised a lot of public interest amongst those affected."
Residents objected in writing to the council's decision to rename so the council decided to hold a postal referendum, to establish the most popular option, which will close tomorrow.
Dave McGloin, the council's head of technical services said that they had received a good response but were still waiting for some replies. The town council has supported the referendum and if there is a two-thirds majority in favour of changing the name to Raskelf Road, the electoral register, postal addresses and street signs will be changed.
The results of the referendum will be discussed at the next planning committee meeting on June 18.
