Girls show that football is best down by the Riverside
Primary colours were awarded to girls' six-a-side football tournament winners Tadcaster Riverside.
The Riverside Under-11s came out on top in the 16-team primary schools competition at York City's training complex at Wigginton.
The Tadcaster school defeated Clifton Without 2-0 to clinch the trophy after a finals day round-robin tournament, which also included Dunnington and Haxby Road.
The 16 teams were originally split into groups of four, with the four winning teams going through to the finals.
The competition was organised by St Johns College student Karen Hill, 21, as part of her final year of a BA Honours course in sports development.
The event was supported by York City's Football In The Community programme, which is run by Paul Olsson.
City players attended pre-tournament training sessions at each of the 16 schools and also supported the teams throughout the competition.
Said Hill: "It was brilliant. All the girls enjoyed it because for a lot of them it was the first time they have played. Hopefully it is going to go ahead next year and a lot of them are looking forward to it already."
