A chance to invest in a racehorse will be offered to the more than 25,000 visitors expected at the three-day World of Racing exhibition at York Racecourse starting on May 29.
A bloodstock sales promotion event will involve staging sales of shares each day, creating what organisers describe as "an opportunity to invest in a selection of the UK's up-and-coming racehorses, to enjoy the thrill of ownership through various high or low-value limited shares."
At each day's sale, co-ordinated by Peter Steveney of Club Racing Ltd, trainers will sell shares in flat, dual-purpose and national hunt horses with the potential to compete at a variety of levels.
Club Racing Ltd has invited sports and media stars to the exhibition in the hope that they can emulate Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson, whose stake in the winning Queensland Star has more than paid dividends recently.
Queensland Star emphasised his quality yesterday, with yet another win at Chester.
The organisers make the point that a successful racing career could mean considerable promotional benefits for corporate racehorse owners. Prize money is tax free.
Mr Steveney said: "Racehorse ownership is fast becoming one of the more innovative and effective marketing tools for the corporate owner, while bringing the thrill of ownership to an ever-increasing number of private individuals through shared ownership and partnerships.
"We aim to provide a first-class platform at The Bloodstock Sales Promotion for companies and private individuals looking to buy a stake in this exciting sport.
"York Racecourse, recently named racecourse of the year has excellent facilities, proving to be the perfect location for such an event."
Horses will be available for private inspection in addition to viewing at parade ring processions. Complimentary tickets for the Moet & Chandon hospitality suite will be given to potential buyers.
Derek Thompson, the Bloodstock Sale Promotion's compere, will provide a commentary on the background and potential of each horse.
The three-day exhibition will feature all aspects of horsemanship, including a retired racehorse pageant with equine stars such as Desert Orchid, Mr Frisk and Royal Athlete, a star horse parage and The Shetland Pony Grand National.
Visitors will also be able to watch training demonstrations by Monty Roberts, who uses his "horse whispering" technique.
