It was a case of "beam me up" for youngsters at Woodthorpe Primary School, York.

Pupils at the school in Summerfield Road have been treading the boards - and trawling the galaxy - in their latest production.

The Final Frontier, a Star Trek spoof, features James T Cake, Lieutenant Bimbo and, of course, Dr Spock. But it also featured Luke Skycrawler, bad guy Cold Finger as the children 'boldly went where no man has been before'.

The play was written by teacher Kate Robinson, with music arranged by fellow teacher Sally Firth.

Mrs Robinson said about 70 pupils were involved in The Final Frontier. "Cold Finger went around freezing everyone before Jim T Cake came to the rescue, aided by the Prize Guys, the Enterprise crew," she said.

"The children loved doing it and it was all done after school on a voluntary basis.

"It was a comedy and the children always seem to enjoy doing productions like this."
