The Princess Royal was in York today to attend a conference on child health at York University... before spending time in jail.

Princess Anne, patron of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, was addressing their annual spring meeting, one of the UK's largest medical conferences. It was expected to attract nearly 2,000 delegates.

Princess Anne arrived at the university's Central Hall, where the Lord Lieutenant of Yorkshire, Sir Marcus Worsley, introduced her to members of the college and paediatric specialists.

Later, the Princess was visiting Wealstun Prison, near Wetherby, in her role as patron of the Butler Trust, a charity set up to manage and develop an independent award scheme for the prison service.

After visiting the prison she was expected to visit the Save the Children shop at Wetherby.

Tomorrow, the Princess Royal will visit the Church House Centre and the Save the Children charity shop at Whitby.

And, as president of the Riding for the Disabled Association, she was also visiting the Priory View Group's new Mill Holme Farm at Speeton, near Filey.
