David Clay, 60, of St Nicholas Road, Copmanthorpe, former TSB bank inspector turn head chef at the Spurriergate Centre in York, has zoomed to the top of our Supershare Top 100 competition.

David devised his own winning financial recipe to earn himself the £50 daily winner's prize, leapfrogging from fourth place to oust mother-of-two Julie Rudkin, of Burnholme Avenue. She now slips to fifth.

He was presented with £40 plus two £5 coin mementoes by Supershare sponsors Walsh Lucas & Company, the independent financial advisers, of Micklegate.

After hearing he had beaten all 15,000 entrants so far, he said: "I was in the Supershare Top Ten the other day, then faded so I'm delighted to be back, this time on top."

Over the past year he has made thousands of pounds on his real-life shares from 15 or 16 small holdings: "I won't say exactly how much," he said.
