York Rugby League Club's overloaded loan list is holding up coach Dean Robinson's latest recruitment plans.
Clubs are permitted a maximum of four loan players and, with the Wasps currently at that limit, Robinson's hands are tied in the transfer market.
The loan register includes Steve and Andy Hill from Castleford Tigers, long-term loan Mick Ramsden, from Wakefield Trinity, and Alex Godfrey, whose permanent transfer from Hull Sharks has yet to be processed.
Robinson is confident of reaching an agreement with the Tigers to sign the two Hills, which would then leave three loan slots available.
The Evening Press understands the coach is targeting a prop forward who is surplus to requirements at a Super League club.
However, he will not be in a position to pursue his interest until early next week, when the club's loan load has been reduced.
Said the coach: "Because of the loan situation, we are allowed only four, I intend signing players to leave me space on my loan agreement. Then I am looking to bring players across on loan for a month, with a view to permanently signing them for York."
The Wasps' prop forward problems deepened with the news that youngster Mick Hagan has suffered a set back in his return from a broken shoulder.
Robinson claimed the player is facing a further operation after a piece of bone became dislodged.
