RAM-RAIDERS who attempted to smash their way into a York bakery left a trail of destruction as they fled from police.
Officers were called to Badger Hill Bakery in Yarburgh Way shortly after midnight when youths were seen driving a car into the shop's wall.
It is not known if anything was taken in the raid, involving a white Ford Escort which had been stolen earlier from Goodramgate.
When police vehicles arrived at the scene, the car sped away, heading towards York city centre.
It passed through Walmgate Bar, leaving several parked cars damaged in its wake.
The car turned into Navigation Road and was eventually abandoned in Rosemary Court.
One youth, with dark hair, wearing a dark-coloured Puffa Jacket, was seen running away, but witnesses at the scene of the ram-raid say they saw three or four youths in the car.
