THE BIGGEST horse- ploughing match to take place in Selby area for 25 years attracted nearly 500 spectators.
Yesterday's plough-in, off the A1041 near Camblesforth, was such a big success that organisers Brendan and Ann Glavin, of Abbot's Road, Selby, plan to make it an annual event.
Fourteen pairs of horses from all over the country took part, and trophies were presented by Selby MP John Grogan.
Lincolnshire's Tom Cliff won the oat seed furrow competition, Ormskirk's Roy Prescott took the general-purpose class trophy, Blackpool's Wyn Hull picked up first prize for the best turned-out pair of horses and ploughman, and Will Williams, from Wales, took home the cup for the best pair of working horses.
