A CHARITY that provides accommodation and support for people with learning disabilities has opened an office in Selby and is aiming to recruit more carers.
Adult Placement Services, which already has offices in Harrogate and York, now has an outlet in the Abbey Yard Centre, where part-time co-ordinator Helen Hall is based. She said: "We are looking for carers either to invite people to live in their homes with them - perhaps over holidays or weekend breaks - or to go out and do befriending and day care.
"In the Selby district, people have expressed more interest in day care and befriending. We give full training and 24-hour support for anybody who does become a carer."
Mrs Hall (tel 01757 213363) said all potential carers were checked as part of an intensive assessment period and they received payment according to the needs of the person who was receiving support.
