THE title hopes of York Acorn 'A' suffered a severe jolt as they let slip a 15-0 lead in losing 16-15 at Dewsbury Moor 'A'.
The Blue and Golds conceded a late penalty when Mark Hebblethwaite was penalised for stealing the ball in front of his own sticks and Moor made no mistake with the kick.
Earlier the Yorkshire League Alliance division two leaders had built up a commanding advantage with tries from Gareth Hill and Gary Taylor, plus three successful Paul Smith kicks and a drop goal.
With Gary Endersby tackling superbly and Taylor running well Acorn seemed to have the game in hand, but the visitors allowed their hosts to edge their way back into the game.
There were also defeats for New Earswick All Blacks 'A' and Heworth 'A' at the weekend.
The All Blacks second string were defeated 30-10 by Redhill at White Rose Avenue, while Alliance division one side Heworth went down 40-14 at Thornhill.
The Villagers had not played for three weeks and they endured the worst of starts when their aggressive hosts posted 20 unanswered points in 20 minutes.
However, Heworth regained their composure and cut out basic errors, resulting in winger Jimmy Rothwell scoring after gathering his own kick just before half-time.
Thornhill's 20-4 interval lead was soon increased with a converted try, but the Villagers responded when under-18s second rower Sam Clarke scored the try of the match. Rothwell converted.
Substitute Neil Scott then finished a cross field passing movement to score an unconverted try wide out on the left.
But Thornhill finished the stronger side and added 14 points in the last 13 minutes to give them a flattering scoreline.
Outstanding for Heworth were scrum-half Andy Davis, prop Pete Orange and brothers Sam and Lee Clarke.
In Yorkshire League division two, West Bank's game with Pudsey was postponed, while Selby Warriors were on the receiving end of a 76-0 defeat by Crigglestone in division three.
Leeds Sunday League side Harrogate reached the final of the Bob Beal Trophy with a 61-16 victory over hosts West Leeds.
Gavin Mulready set the tone for the match with a try after 44 seconds, and Owen Drane converted for the first of his 17 points.
There were further tries for Steve O'Brien, Hugh Gumbs, Des Waeree (2), Andy Marks, John Hamilton, Tom Lidgate, Drane and Mulready completed his hat-trick.
