The scoreline of the week for Read School, Drax, first XI hockey team was 1-0 with them winning two and losing one by this margin.
Oliver Frost was the goal hero for Read against Bootham School, York. The match proved tough going for Read who, although having much of the play, were unable to beat the highly competent Bootham 'keeper for most of the game.
Michael Lane was a dynamo in midfield linking defence with attack and it was one of his through passes in the middle of the second half that set Frost away on the right.
The marksman made full use of his pace to stretch the 'keeper wide and slot home from a narrowing angle.
Bootham tried in vain to gain an equaliser as Jonathan White, Melvyn Batty and David Holmes were outstanding in defence.
It was a 1-0 reverse against Ashville College when, again, Read dominated much of the play.
A carelessly taken free hit presented Ashville's centre forward with the ball on the edge of the area and he did not miss.
However, the victorious vein was restored when they beat Scarborough College 1-0.
The Read defence was well in control with White outstanding. James Ellerington hit the goal in the second half.
Read School's under-12 mixed team entertained Red House, York, and with well-taken goals from Nicky Clarke, Kathryn Wiles and Aaron Williams took a 3-0 lead.
Red House came back into it with two goals, but Fiona Outhwaite and Enisha Das held the defence firm for the remainder of the game.
At under-14 level, Scarborough College gained revenge with a 9-1 win. Nicholas Parrish and John Lymm worked tirelessly in midfield and James Forsey scored Read's consolation.
But Read's under-12s hit back with a 5-0 win over their Scarborough counterparts. David Bowker (2), George Outhwaite (2) and Michael Currums scored, helped by fine support play from Matthew Kaye and Kevin Smith.
