NEW Earswick put up a valiant fight to come out with a point in a 2-2 draw at Clifton Olympic in the York John Smith's Sunday Football League.
Earswick, who are struggling at the wrong end of the division one table, will take heart from a good performance as they battle against relegation. Steve Paylor and Mike Anderson netted for Clifton, with Earswick's goals by David Holmes and Paul Day.
An under-strength Dringhouses S and SC put up a good show before going down to leaders Osbaldwick Herald 4-3. Herald led 3-1 at one stage but a brace of goals from Nicky Brown put Dringhouses back on level terms at 3-3, but Herald came through with goals from David Harvey, Jim Woodhouse, Pete Sinclair and Mal Pepper. Hounds FC got back to normal with a 3-0 win over The Mount, Andrew Cygan hitting all three for Hounds.
Zafs Lions beat Middleton Celtic 3-1 with Mark Ratcliffe and a couple from Mark Pearson securing the points. Jamie Hegarty netting for Celtic. Shaun Forest hit Locomotive's goal as they drew 1-1 with one time leaders Wigginton.
Division two front runners Shipton were held to a 1-1 draw by promotion-chasing Jubilee, both goals coming in the second half. Kevin Drinkall scored for Shipton and Carl Young for Jubilee.
Copmanthorpe put the block on Heslington's promotion chase with a 3-2 win. Garry Nixon (2) and Mark Gregory scored for Copmanthorpe.
John Grayson hit a second half hat trick for Beeswing as they came back from a Paul Halliday goal for Bishopthorpe to win 3-1. Selby WMC lost to an own goal against FC Magnet and White Swan overcame Stone Trough to win 2-1. Wayne Reed and Paddy McGinty scored for Swan.
After two creditable draws in successive weeks with division three leaders Severus SC, Acomb WMC beat Blacksmiths Arms 3-0 in a dress rehearsal for their York FA Cup semi-final in a month's time. Kevin Deighton and a couple of goals from veteran striker John Crake put Acomb on their way to a much-needed win.
In the only other division three game, Flag and Whistle beat Dunnington 4-2 after being 2-0 up by half time. Mike O'Donnell, Jimmy Collins, Jamie O'Connell and Simon Mollon netted for the Flag. Dunnington's replies came from Fowler and A Tolworthy, penalty.
Marcia lost to division four leaders B H Colts 3-0 as the Colts returned to form. Jamie Rank, Paul Atkinson and Rich Fountain got the Colts' goals.
Promotion chasers Riccall United had to rely on a single Hollis Bills goal to pull them through against a much-improved Bay Rovers, as Riccall won 1-0. Cock and Bottle's promotion hopes took a dive as they lost 3-0 to Inland Revenue. Robin Ellis, Brian Howells and Paul Hemingway netted for the Revenue.
Lee Wiper hit both goals for Wilberfoss as they lost 6-2 to Quakerwood RI. Zafs Lions Reserrves drew 1-1 with Terrys. Wayne Jamison scored for Zafs and Paul Broadbent for Terry's.
Britannia, Pocklington and Shepherds all won, so there's no change at the top of division five. Britannia won 3-1 against Acomb Celtic, Kevin Jackson (2) and Dave Hindmarch scoring for Brit.
Pocklington stayed in second place thanks to a 3-1 win at Bay Horse Rovers. Smith, Peacock and Taylor for Pocklington and Rovers' goal was scored by Phil Pattison.
Shepherd's kept up their promotion push with a 7-2 win over Wanderers. Jarvis (2), Walker, Lamb, Hinch, Atkinson and Nichol getting the Shepherd's goals. Wanderers goals came from Mike Calvert and Pete Ruane. Fulford Bay still have an outside chance of going up as they beat Jubilee Reserves 4-1. Mitchell (2), Hirst and Atkinson scored for Fulford Bay. Mark Moore replied for Jubilee.
Stockton Forest took a 1-0 lead from a Mike Garvey goal against Bishopthorpe United, but Bishopthorpe made it a 1-1 draw with a last minute goal from Steve Fuller.
Shape Shop consolidated their lead in division six with a 3-2 win at second placed Linton-on-Ouse. Barry Gargett got both Linton's goals. Shape Shop's goals came from a Mark Schofield (penalty), Rich Millett and Barry Shepherdson.
Fulford Road WMC jump ahead of Linton after beating Raskelf 2-0. Jonathan Sutton and Matt Gale scored for the club. Portakabin beat promotion hopefuls Walnut Tree 3-2. Martin Swales who usually plays in goal netted from the centre forward position, with Stuart Dickenson scoring the other two.
Middleton Celtic Reserves beat Enterprise 4-0. Mark Brown, Paul Butler, Ian Dawson and Mark Baker scoring for Celtic. Golden Ball won 2-0 at Copmanthorpe Reserves with goals by David Broadbent and Mike Turner.
Boy and Barrel lost 4-2 at home to St Clement's WMC. David Cooper (2) scored for Barrel. Drowsfield, Smart, Shelly and Reynolds scored for St Clement's.
