A KEY access road into York from the A64 is to close for re-surfacing, causing knock-on traffic chaos elsewhere in the city.
The slip-road leading from the dual carriageway to Tadcaster Road will be barred to traffic.
York-bound traffic will be diverted along the A64 to enter the city via the A19 Fulford Road.
This road is already heavily congested during the morning rush-hour, with traffic frequently tailing back to the A64 junction and beyond. The diversion looks set to worsen the problems.
Slip-roads from Tadcaster Road on to the westbound A64, and from the westbound A64 into Tadcaster Road, will also close for separate periods during the £92,000 project.
The works will start on or after Tuesday, February 24, and are expected to last for about seven days. Only one slip road will close at any one time.
Congestion is also expected on York's Inner Ring Road this Sunday, caused by the closure of Layerthorpe Bridge at midnight on Saturday during construction of a new bridge.
A new road lay-out is also being introduced this weekend for northbound traffic leaving the A1 at Bramham Crossroads, near Tadcaster. The existing slip road onto the A64 will be closed, and motorists diverted on to a new slip road.
